1. What SeaSupport keeps
- Your account: name, email address, a scrambled form of your password (never the password itself), and a phone number if you give one for alerts.
- Your boats: the details you enter, the boat photo, the berth, and the boat's position and track when position sharing or recording is on.
- Your position: only while you have turned it on, for the weather at your place, anchor watch, storm watch, the ship's log track and remote monitoring. Turning it off stops it.
- Your records: the ship's log and its photos, maintenance and service history, manuals, expenses, friends and followers, and the SeaSocials page if you make one.
- Requests and calls: what you ask for, the quotes you receive, messages, and photos sent on a call. Photos sent on a call are kept for seven days, then deleted.
- Payments: credits and membership are paid by card through Stripe. SeaSupport never sees or stores a card number; it keeps the record of what was bought.
- Technicians: name, region, skills, languages, certificate photos and rating. Name, region, skills, languages and rating are shown to owners; the phone number is never shown to an owner.
- Problem reports: what you write, with the app version and the kind of device, so the problem can be found.
2. What it is used for
To run the service: match you with a technician, place a call, show the weather and tide where you are, sound an alarm you have set, keep your log, and reach you by push notification, email or (when it is switched on) text. SeaSupport does not sell your information and does not use it for advertising.
Calls are checked automatically. What is said and shown on a call is checked by an automated system for phone numbers, email addresses, web addresses and messaging or social media names, so that work stays on the platform. Anything found is recorded against the call, as the terms set out.
3. Who else handles it
SeaSupport runs on other companies' services. Each one sees only what it needs for its job.
| Service | What it does | What it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosts the app and stores its records | Everything above, encrypted in transit |
| Agora | Carries the live video calls | Video and audio during a call; not stored by SeaSupport |
| Anthropic | The Captain's answers, the interpreter, the voyage story writer, the social caption writer and the automatic call checks | The question you ask, the log lines you choose to send, and what is seen and heard on a call for the check |
| Microsoft Azure speech | Turns speech into text on a technician's call | Audio during a call |
| Stripe | Takes card payments | Your card details and email; SeaSupport never sees the card |
| Resend | Sends SeaSupport's emails | Your email address and the email itself |
| Apple and Google push services | Deliver push notifications to your phone | A device token and the notification text |
| Stormglass, Open-Meteo | Weather and tide | The position the forecast is for |
| Esri, OpenStreetMap, OpenSeaMap, RainViewer | Map, chart and radar tiles | The area of map you look at |
| Victron VRM, Garmin inReach | Remote monitoring, only if you connect them | The readings and positions your own account there provides |
4. How long
For as long as you have an account, apart from photos sent on a call (seven days). Ship's log and maintenance entries are never edited; a correction is added beside the original, because the record is meant to stand.
5. Your choices
- Position: on or off from the home screen, any time.
- Notifications: your phone's settings, or the alert settings in the app.
- See or correct your details: Account → My details.
- Delete your account: Account → My details → Delete my account (owners), or the menu under your initials → Delete my account (technicians). It removes your sign-in, your details, your boats and positions, your photos, your push subscriptions and any credits left. It cannot be undone. Payment records stay with Stripe as the law requires, and jobs already paid stay in the records the law requires.
- Ask a question or report a concern: Account → Report a problem or an idea, in the app.
6. Children
SeaSupport is for people aged 18 and over.
7. Changes
When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it, and a change that matters is shown in the app the next time you open it.
